The STATE of New Jersey(s) πŸ†•

Seth Book, Digital Scan, 2018

Growing up a fan of several sports, the peak form of representing your team was through the often expensive act of wearing a jersey. Whether it was a replica or an authentic on-field product, new jerseys were either a birthday gift jackpot or the closest thing I knew to a long term investment.

When I was in second year university, I worked a summer job in an office in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood which is home to many of the city’s vintage clothing shops. Discovering the second hand jersey market was the most counterproductive thing I could have done while trying to save money at that job all summer.

The constant variation of quality, materials, manufacturers, and especially design in modern day uniforms has always been an area of interest, and one that does a lot of the heavy lifting for the intersection between sport, fashion, and design. The State of New Jersey(s) is a brief column that keeps a finger on the pulse of design in sport, ranging from uniforms to equipment.
